Summary of Position:
HVAC technicians will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of commercial refrigeration, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and related systems.

Job Requirements:
A minimum of three to five years’ experience on commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems is required. The ideal candidate should have at least a Journeyman Oil and Solid Fuel license, and a Propane & Natural Gas License. A Journeyman Plumbing license, and/or a Limited Electrical license, or better, would be desirable. Physical fitness to carry tools and equipment, climb ladders, work in confined spaces is required. Also desirable are communications skills person-to-person and in writing. The successful candidate must be professional in appearance and conduct in all respects, skilled at the use of modern tools, test equipment, computers, and smartphone applications and willing to be flexible with work tasks or assignments. Candidates must be able to work well alone without close supervision, and work well with others.

Job Description:

The Project Sales Representative:

  • Provides modification/repair/replacement recommendations and documents these recommendations so the customer and the operations department understand what is required.
  • The individual must be competent in their understanding of mechanical systems. Able to survey mechanical systems, identify problems and propose cost-effective solutions in a timely manner. Understands prospect’s needs and problems. Determines repair, modification and/or replacement requirements to provide prospects with solutions to problems. Interpret drawings, equipment, and job conditions.
  • They must qualify prospects, makes effective sales presentations, answers questions and objections in a proficient and responsible manner. Aggressively manages quotes to close sales.
  • Effectively represent the company’s interests to outside agents to maximize profits. Identifies prospects in assigned market. Promptly follow up on leads and referrals. Establish customer rapport and identify needs.
  • Understands the customer’s cost to own, operate and maintain facilities. Able to translate that understanding into proposals and sales that will enhance customer’s facility while reducing long-term owning and operating costs.
  • Maintains an active backlog of quotes to assure booking goal is consistently met.

Education and Experience:

Three to five years of field experience as a licensed HVAC technician and mechanical engineering and/or design work experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: HVAC Controls Technician
PRIMARY FUNCTION: In this position you will be installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and programming environmental control systems. Utilize your knowledge of electronics, direct digital controls, airflow, refrigeration, and building control methods.

Technical Knowledge:
• Keep up to date with technical knowledge regarding equipment, concepts, and installation techniques
• Recommend cost effective solutions to installation problems
• End to end testing, programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing assigned projects
• Search out and study applicable maintenance manuals
• Setting up the graphical interface and network connections for the controls
• Representing Thayer Corporation by serving as the direct customer contact, ensuring customer satisfaction by identifying, analyzing, diagnosing and repairing equipment
• Continually enforcing safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
Customer Relations:
• Inform customer when arriving at or leaving the job and when planning to return.
• Explore any customer complaint to determine the root cause.
• React to customer complaints with the proper amount of sympathy and empathy.
• When the problem is caused by the customer’s use of the system (rather than a fault of the system), tactfully communicate the fact and offer suggestions.

Time Management/Planning:
Demonstrate ability to accurately determine priorities by adhering to planned schedules and having the proper tools and materials when arriving at a job site.

Communication:
Promptly and accurately complete all required data entries.
Keep manager informed of essential information related by the customer.
Internal & External Relations:
Build and maintain rapport and positive working relations with employees, customers, vendors and other outside agents, with all intercompany, intra-affiliate and staff to resolve problems or exploit opportunities. Effectively represent company’s interests when required.

Confidentiality:
Maintain the confidentiality of information regarding the operations of the company, customers or vendors and the proprietary technology, methods and know-how acquired related to the job.
Education and Experience:
• A High School Diploma or equivalent experience is required. A minimum of 7+ years of experience in HVAC Installation/ Maintenance, Controls or equivalent combination of education (Technical School) and experience is preferred.
• Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad).
• Must possess a valid driver's license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations
• EPA Certification Preferred (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc).
• This position requires working in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock (high voltage).
• This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift and or move up to 40 lbs and occasionally lift and or move more than 40 lbs.
• EPA Certification Preferred (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc).
